ROYAL CIRCLE FOUNDATION CONTINUES YOUTH VIOLENCE PREVENTION INITIATIVE IN BALTIMORE, MD
On April 29, 2008, the Royal Circle Foundation, Inc. launched the Baltimore Youth Violence Prevention Intiative's Young Ambassador's Program. The program continues in 2010.
The program targets inner city "at risk" youth ages 12-16 and is designed to offer a new model for primary prevention aimed at providing selected young people with culturally enriching experiences and those that foster postive self-confidence and esteem.
The "Youth Ambassadors" are involved in a project that pairs them with their counterparts in the West African Country of Ghana and will provide them with an enriching cultural experience where tradition and respect are the order of the day.
They participate in a community project, share experiences with the young people of Ghana, and tour the country learing about its rich culture. The Foundation is currently accepting applications for 2009-2010 period. This will occur over the two week holiday period during the Christmas '10 and New Year' season so as not to interfere with their regular school year programs.
"Youth Ambassadors" are honored at an awards luncheon and make a formal presentations of their experiences to the Baltimore community at large in the spring following their cultural exchange.
Applications are currently being accepted for this program and the final deadline date for receipt of all applications is August 31, 2010.
The Selection Committee will reveiew all applications received and make their finaly decision by October 10, 2010 notifying the winners and their families by the 15th of October.
Family and student orientation for those selected will begin during the last week of October and again in November before the Thanksgiving holidays providing the young people and their families ample time to secure the required travel documents and immunizations.
It is the belief of the Foundation that with positive motivation and experiences, "at risk" youth of today will become the "role models for positive change" tomorrow!
This is an ongoing project that needs the help and support of the Baltimore community. Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to the Royal Circle Foundation, Inc. to support this project and others that the Foundation has undertaken. No amount is too small. Everything helps us to help save our youth.
